Provider Alert! New Value Point of Origin for Admission of Visit Code “G,” In Use Beginning July 1, 2020 due to the COVID-19

Effective Date: July 1, 2020

Providers should monitor the Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) Provider Portal regularly for alerts and updates associated to the COVID-19 event.  TCHP reserves the right to update and/or change this information without prior notice due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 event.

Call to action: Texas Children’s Health plan (TCHP) would like to inform providers that effective July 1, 2020, a new value Point of Origin for Admission or Visit Code “G” has been established to indicate a “Transfer from a Designated Disaster Alternate Care Site (ACS),” due to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency. Providers submitting claims for emergency, urgent, elective, newborn, and trauma can now include the point of origin “G,” code.

How this impacts providers: The National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC) created the new Point of Origin code “G.” The code is applicable for all providers that submit claims for outpatient and inpatient services.

The types of admissions are valid with Point of Origin code “G” as follows:

Type of Admission Type of Admission Description Point of Origin for Admission or Visit Point of Origin for Admission or Visit Description
1 Emergency G Transfer from A Designated Disaster Alternate Care Site
2 Urgent G Transfer from A Designated Disaster Alternate Care Site
3 Elective G Transfer from A Designated Disaster Alternate Care Site
4 Newborn G Born Outside of A Designated Disaster Alternate Care Site
5 Trauma G Transfer from A Designated Disaster Alternate Care Site
9 Information Not Available G Transfer from A Designated Disaster Alternate Care Site

Next steps for providers: Providers should share this billing update with their staff.
