Provider Alert! Important Reminder about Medicaid Re-enrollment and How Providers Can Assist Their Patients

Date: May 19, 2023

Attention: All Providers

Effective Date: Ongoing

Call to action: Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) would like to remind providers that the Medicaid coverage rules have changed, and some Medicaid recipients will need to go through the renewal process to determine their eligibility for coverage. This is the result of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 (CAA, 2023) that was enacted on December 29, 2022. The CAA ended the auto-renewals for Medicaid.

Starting April 2023, some of our Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) members were notified to renew their Medicaid coverage or risk losing their plan and access to healthcare. Others will have to go through this process later in 2023 and will be informed of the process and dates to renew.

How will your patients know it is time for their renewal?

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will contact members who need to renew their coverage monthly between April and the end of 2023. HHSC will send mail correspondence with specific directions and timing for each individual. Members with a YourTexasBenefits.com account that have signed up for electronic notices will receive a renewal notice electronically via email. It is important that members check their postal mail or email and respond to the state’s request quickly. Members have 30 days to respond. Their specific deadline will be stated in their renewal packet.

TCHP is sending correspondence to our members via postal mail and email encouraging that they take action. More global communication from TCHP includes social media posts, member newsletter articles and resources on our website dedicated to helping members maintain their coverage.

How this impacts providers:

Your assistance is crucial to helping your patients maintain coverage if they are eligible.

The timeline to complete the application process is limited. Please ensure your patient’s contact information is up-to-date. Patients can visit YourTexasBenefits.com or call 2-1-1, option 2, to update their information. Additionally, ask your patients to look for the notice saying “Action Required” or if they have chosen electronic communications, in their email.

  • TCHP is always available to assist members with their renewals.
  • We have lots of resources available on our website at texaschildrenshealthplan.org/renew
  • Members can call TCHP toll-free 1-800-990-8247 (Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

For assistance with the application, members can call us to request help or visit texaschildrenshealthplan.org/get-covered/help-me-apply and connect with our application assistance team.
