Date: September 13, 2022

Attention: All Providers

Effective Date: September 1, 2022

Providers should monitor the Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) Provider Portal regularly for alerts and updates associated with the COVID-19 event. TCHP reserves the right to update and/or change this information without prior notice due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 event.

Call to action: Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) would like to inform providers that the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will close the 2022 Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Summer season for specific regions. Beginning September 1, 2022, HHSC will close the summer RSV season for regions 1, 2, 4, 9, and 10. The Texas RSV region schedule and map can be found on the Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) Vendor Drug Program (VDP) website.

How this impacts providers: The following regions will remain open: 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11. Refer to the RSV season schedule on the VDP website for information regarding start and end dates for all regions.

The summer season began June 1, 2022, and HHSC policy regarding approval of up to five monthly shots per season will remain in effect for those still open regions. It is unknown when the Fall/Winter traditional season will start for specific regions based on the unusual pattern of RSV activity observed this year. TCHP will communicate additional regional changes as this information becomes available.

Next steps for providers: Providers should continue to follow American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines when prescribing and should share this communication with their staff.
