Provider Alert! Texas Children’s Health Plan Celebrates Cultural Competency Week

Date: November 14, 2022

Attention: All Providers

Providers should monitor the Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) Provider Portal regularly for alerts and updates associated to the COVID-19 event.  TCHP reserves the right to update and/or change this information without prior notice due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 event.

Call to action:  We’re excited to announce that Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) will be celebrating Cultural Competency week, November 14-18, 2022! In doing so, we invite you to view our new video to commemorate the importance of this topic. Please click here to view the new video or go to https://youtu.be/flxXpSBTwws.

TCHP fosters an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion by providing the right resources for our network of providers to better serve our culturally diverse member population. We invite you to learn more about how TCHP is committed to providing cultural and linguistic appropriate services (CLAS) for you to improve the quality of care of our members.

How this impacts providers:  To support the CLAS standards outlined in our Cultural Competency Plan, TCHP encourages providers to complete the Health and Human Services, Texas Health Steps, Culturally Effective Health Care online course. The learning objectives include the following:

  • Assess how culturally effective practices can affect health-care services and health outcomes in diverse populations.
  • Employ professional ethics to determine how to make your clinical practice more culturally effective.
  • Apply legal requirements related to confidentiality, informed consent, and language assistance services for patients and families who are not proficient in English.

Next steps for providers: After the Texas Health Steps, Culturally Effective Health Care training is completed, we encourage you to implement the procedures and resources acquired during the course into the daily operations of your practice.
